PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Holy One, you have bestowed upon your Church varieties of gifts through the same Spirit and given us varieties of service but the same Lord: Grant your people all gifts necessary for the upbuilding of your Body and the reconciliation of the world.

Your love, O God, reaches to the heavens,
and your faithfulness to the clouds.

Benevolent One, you give your people drink from the river of your delights: Fill our community with peace and kindness, that we may nurture one another and celebrate our common life.

Your love, O God, reaches to the heavens,
and your faithfulness to the clouds.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
AND RECONCILIATION
Brief silent consideration of how we have responded to our personal and congregational opportunities to do good, as we face ourselves honestly in the presence of the Almighty.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE
May Almighty God have mercy on us
to bless our good works
and forgive us our sins,
and lead us into everlasting life.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever. Amen.

THE BIBLE READING
Links to multiple translations:
Romans 14:1-12

1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

HYMN OF CELEBRATION
“Standing on the Promises”

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King
Through eternal ages let His praises ring
Glory in the highest I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God

Chorus
Standing standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing standing
I’m standing on the promises of God

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living Word of God I shall prevail
Standing on the promises of God

Chorus
Standing standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing standing
I’m standing on the promises of God

3. Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect present cleansing in the blood for me
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free
Standing on the promises of God

Chorus
Standing standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing standing
I’m standing on the promises of God

4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s Sword
Standing on the promises of God

Chorus
Standing standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing standing
I’m standing on the promises of God

5. Standing on the promises I cannot fall
List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my All in All
Standing on the promises of God

Standing standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing standing
I’m standing on the promises of God

PASSING THE PEACE

May the peace of Christ be with you all!
And also with you!

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

CONVERSATIONAL SERMON
Everyone is invited to share as the Pastor leads a discussion of these sermon points.
JUSTICE: Inarguable

Avoid arguing about opinions.
Don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with—even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department. Vs 1b (MSG)

We welcome everyone.
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.   Vs 1a (MSG)

We encourage each other to stand up for what we believe in.
Each person is free to follow the convictions of conscience.
Vs 5b (MSG)

Trust God to adjust their thinking (and ours).
If there are corrections to be made or manners to be learned, God can handle that without your help.    Vs 4b (MSG)

The Bible promises that everyone will eventually know God.
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.    Vs 11 (KJV)
