INVOCATION

HYMN OF PRAISE
“We Gather Together”

We gather together
To ask the Lord’s blessing
He chastens and hastens
His will to make known
The wicked oppressing
Now cease from distressing
Sing praises to His name
He forgets not His own

Beside us to guide us
Our God with us joining
Ordaining maintaining
His kingdom divine
So from the beginning
The fight we were winning
Thou Lord wast at our side
All glory be Thine

We all do extol Thee
Thou Leader triumphant
And pray that Thou still
Our Defender wilt be
Let Thy congregation
Escape tribulation
Thy name be ever praised
O Lord make us free

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Awaken your Church to encourage and build up one another as children of light and children of the day, that we may serve as instruments of your compassion and justice.

O God, you have been our refuge
from one generation to another.

Bless our community with wisdom, healing, and honor, that we may be bearers of faith, hope, and love .

O God, you have been our refuge
from one generation to another.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
AND RECONCILIATION
Brief silent consideration of how we have responded to our personal and congregational opportunities to do good, as we face ourselves honestly in the presence of the Almighty.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE
May Almighty God have mercy on us
to bless our good works
and forgive us our sins,
and lead us into everlasting life.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever. Amen.

THE BIBLE READING
Links to multiple translations:
1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

HYMN OF CELEBRATION
“God So Loved”

For God so loved the world
That He gave His only Son
That whosoever believes will not perish
They shall have eternal life
Great Father of glory, Pure Father of light
Thine angels adore thee, All veiling their sight
All praise we would render, O help us to see
‘Tis only the splendor, Of light hideth thee

PASSING THE PEACE

May the peace of Christ be with you all!
And also with you!

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

CONVERSATIONAL SERMON
Everyone is invited to share as the Pastor leads a discussion of these sermon points.
JUSTICE: Stepping in the Light

Children of the Light
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.  Vs 5 (KJV)

Don’t be caught off guard
You know as well as I that the day of the Master’s coming can’t be posted on our calendars. He won’t call ahead and make an appointment any more than a burglar would.  Vs 2 (MSG)

Be calm and collected
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. Vs  8 (KJV)

 Trust God’s love
God didn’t set us up for an angry rejection but for salvation by our Master, Jesus Christ.    Vs 9 (KJV)

Include and encourage everyone
So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.    Vs 11 (MSG)

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP
The Altar in our hearts is always open

HYMN OF DEDICATION
“Let Me Walk”

Let me walk through paradise with you Lord
Take my hand and lead me there
All my earthly treasures I will gladly give
Teach me how to love and how to share
Greed and lust and vanity were mine Lord
Then I found your love divine
Now on my knees I pray I will find a way
Let me walk through paradise with you

Oh, my Lord, my Savior
Guide my poor feet along that lonely road
Faith, hope, and love will light the way before me
And I’ll walk through paradise with you

GOING FORTH TO LOVE OTHERS
AS CHRIST LOVES US

CHORAL BENEDICTION
“Beloved, Let Us Love One Another”

Beloved let us love one another
For love is of God and ev’ryone that loveth
Is born of God and knoweth God
He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love
Beloved let us love one another
