INVOCATION

HYMN OF PRAISE
“Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”

Joyful joyful we adore Thee
God of Glory Lord of Love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Opening to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day

All Thy works with joy surround Thee
Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays
Stars and angels sing around Thee
Center of unbroken praise
Field and forest vale and mountain
Flowery meadow flashing sea
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee

Thou art giving and forgiving
Ever blessing ever blest
Wellspring of the joy of living
Ocean depth of happy rest
Thou our Father Christ our Brother
All who live in love are Thine
Teach us how to love each other
Lift us to the joy divine

Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Father love is reigning o’er us
Brother love binds man to man
Ever singing march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music lifts us sunward
In the triumph song of life

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Like a patient gardener you nurture and feed your Church, urging us to grow and flourish that we may bring forth fruit without delay: Bless your people, that all may seek you eagerly and share in your work of reconciliation.

            Your loving-kindness is better than life itself;
our lips shall give you praise.

You hear the call of all who live with misery, illness, poverty, or threat: Raise up champions of virtue, healing, and justice to bring the power of your gracious compassion and liberation to everyone in need.

           Your loving-kindness is better than life itself;
our lips shall give you praise.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
AND RECONCILIATION
Brief silent consideration of how we have responded to our personal and congregational opportunities to do good, as we face ourselves honestly in the presence of the Almighty.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE
May Almighty God have mercy on us
to bless our good works
and forgive us our sins,
and lead us into everlasting life.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever. Amen.

THE GOSPEL READING
Links to multiple translations:
Romans 12:9-21

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

HYMN OF CELEBRATION
“The Lord’s My Shepherd”

The Lord’s my Shepherd
I’ll not want
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green
He leadeth me the quiet waters by

My soul He doth restore again
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness
E’en for His own Name’s sake

Yea though I walk through death’s dark vale
Yet will I fear none ill
For Thou art with me and Thy rod
And staff me comfort still

My table Thou has furnished
In presence of my foes
My head Thou dost with oil anoint
And my cup overflows

Goodness and mercy all of my life
Shall surely follow me
And in God’s house for evermore
My dwelling place shall be

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP
The Altar in our hearts is always open

HYMN OF DEDICATION

“Together We Serve”

Together we serve united by love
Inviting God’s world to the glorious feast
We work and we pray through sorrow and joy
Extending Your love to the last and the least

We seek to become a beacon of hope
A lamp for the heart and a light for the feet
We learn year by year to let love shine through
Until we see Christ in each person we meet

We welcome the scarred the wealthy the poor
The busy the lonely and all who need care
We offer a home to those who will come
Our hands quick to help our hearts ready to dare

Together by grace we witness and work
Remembering Jesus in whom we grow strong
Together we serve in Spirit and truth
Remembering love is the strength of our song
